I got this drum off e-Bay a couple of weeks ago. It's a Radio King shell
that was customized for Ted Nugent's drummer Cliff Davis in 1978. It is
signed by Foley and Jamieson ("custom built by Paul Jamieson"). I can't
figure out who did what. It was definitely custom painted and has a Rogers
strainer. I can't imagine what "custom built" means. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Fred Mann
I realize this post is over 10 years old but I just acquired one of these custom snares. Mine is obviously a 6 ply Gretsch snare that has been modified with a Rogers strainer and butt plate. Edges also appear to have been re-cut to a much sharper edge. My drum says Custom Built for John Siomos by Paul Jamison. If the name doesn't ring a bell he was Peter Frampton's drummer in the 70's including the smash album Frampton Comes Alive. At the bottom of the badge/plate it has the years 12-76 and #003. Doing a google search on Paul Jamieson led me to this posting.

Pat's a friend of mine, he now lives in England working for Gibson in
artist relations.
He pretty much started the custom drum business, hand cutting bearing
edges before anyone cared about that sort of thing, I own a drum set
he made for me and a couple of snares as well.
He made custom drums for Don Henley, Jonathan Moffet and pretty much
every professional drummer in LA.
Later he worked for DW for a short period of time when they wanted to
build custom drums with custom paint jobs.
When Slingerland was revived he ran the whole business hand making the
top end drums from paint jobs to hand cutting bearing edges and was
the sole guy making the Radio King reissue snare.
The drums were great, but DW had too much leverage in the market and
started putting pressure on dealers that carried the new Slingerland
drums.
Gibson said screw it and decided to dump the whole Slingerland
project, but if you ever see one of the Slingerland kits he made, they
were beautiful and far better than the DW kits.
Friend was a former rep for Slingerland and Mapex. Their downfall wasn't DW, but trying to make a dealer buy everything Gibson had to offer, in order to stock Slingerland. A $2k slingerland kit wasn't as attractive as a $3k DW to a lot of dealers

Does Paul still do custom snares. If he does how would I get ahold of him.
