Any of you who are using Motzarella.org as your free news server, they will
be changing to news.eternal-september.org as of July 1st. You can make the
change now, so you don't forget.

AT&T is discontinuing newsgroups so it looks like I will need a new
server (Cincinnati Bell Zoomtown is my provider). How is Motzarella?

I hit reply instead of reply group first time, sorry.

I made the change the other day and had the same problem I had initially
with motzarella: you have to spell september right. It's not that hard but
the font is so small in that area of "tools" I couldn't figure out why it
wouldn't connect. All good now.

Works great for me. It's free, so you can't beat the price.

Actually, I made the switch from Motz to september and haven't been able to
see any posts. My outgoing post showed up on Google, but I just switched
back to motzarella and now I can read posts, as well. Maybe you can't read
posts until the July 1st changeover??

No, it's working now. You need to check your settings or get in the FAQs
for help. I have Motzarella deleted and am just on September and it's
working.

For anybody attempting to use Thunderbird with
news.eternal-september.org there is a magic incantation that allows you
to connect and see all the newsgroups without going through a bunch of
pain. Right after you add the newsgroup, but before you connect, go
into Account Settings -> Server Settings and turn on the "Always request
authentication when connecting to this server" option. Then when you
actually attempt to access the newsgroup (the first logical time for
this to happen would by going into the "Manage Subscriptions" panel) you
will get prompted for a userid and password.
