Hi,
I've recently acquired a John Aldridge-engraved Black Beauty, quite a
recent one - 2005 I think. It had never been used, but I suspect the
previous owner might have stored it in less than ideal conditions.

The black nickel plating has "oil-slick-rainbow" discoloration all
over it.

Is there a way to get rid of this patina and restore the original
black?

I can't answer your question, but these guys probably can:

http://www.caswellplating.com/

I've purchased quite a few of their products and they are a great company to
work with. They are very knowledgeable and they have a forum where a lot of
smart people hang out, so hopefully they can help you.

Must have got it from Rob--that stuff all over it is nasty aids ridden semen
and I would be careful not to get a disease from that damned thing
