This new pad is fantastic -- there's nothing better for improving stick
control than playing big heavy marching sticks on kevlar. Of course,
much can be argued about the sound of these drums, but with the Invader
you can now get a very similar feel with minimum volume.

The sound off those pads is pleasant and extremely precise even at low
stick height. This has been the trouble with the standard rubber pad.
You really need the clarity of sound to benefit from the exercises.

Meh, I think it sounds like you're playing on a table top. I like the
Vic Firth pad with the snare sound.

There's no more piercing sound than a scottish marching drum with the
internal top snare mechanism. Check these out:

Without the top snare it's more like the drum corps tabletop sound.
These drums really focus the accuracy of all rudiments. I like a workout
on HT and then go back to a 'normal' snare drum sound (Gadd-style
rudiments...)

Heavy-duty hearing protection required for HT practice... the Invader
pad has the same kevlar feel, but a much softer sound.
