Does anyone know if the song Black Betty by Ram Jam was
played using single or double bass drum?

Dang, now that's a long reach back into the archives of obscurity! I don't
think I've heard that song in 25 years, I don't have the recording, and I don't
remember the drum part at all (so what good am I, right?). However, I DID see
Ram Jam open up for Styx on their "Grand Illusion" tour of 1977, and if memory
serves (and it usually doesn't) I do seem to remember the drummer playing a
double bass kit.

Thanks for that first hand info - it probably confirms that
the studio track was played with double bass. It would
require some Colin Bailey style work on single pedal anyway...

I remember the film clip, and the guy definately used two kicks. I think
they were 24" single head Ludwigs from memory. The solos in that song were
very cool.
