I can't tell if it's a put-on or not?
If it's not, I don't see how he could leave it up and take the ridicule.

Either way, it's pretty hysterical.

That guy's opinion of his talent greatly exceeds his ability!

That so called "5/4" riff he plays is a solid 4/4. He then tries to
count 5 across it and realises that something is wrong, so he inserts a
one beat rest to make it add up to 5.

Doh!

You hear him, for a couple bars, start to count, "2 3 4 5, 2 3 4 5."

The comments are pretty funny, too.

Man, those Expert Village videos are usually pretty bad, sometimes (as in
this case) offering "expert" tutorial that is flat out wrong. I don't think
that guy is trying to be funny or ironic.

If not, this begs a few questions:
1) Wouldn't you just record another take if you didn't get it right the
first time? I mean, it's a 1 minute clip recorded on a consumer camcorder in
the guy's living room...
2) Did he even watch this video after he recorded it?
3) Why didn't he just play "Take 5"?

That's the FIRST thing I thought!
Then I realized, "well duh, he can't play in 5."

Now we're getting into urban myths. :-)

The choreographer leading his dancers to music in 6/8...
"One, Two, Three-four, five, six, sev'n-eight."

More or less, but he really goes against the grain and adds an extra note or
two toward the end. So musical and insightful. I know I learned something
from him!

I registered and added a comment asking him why he doesn't delete the
video and save himself the ridicule.

We should get Rob to comment. :-o

That's part of the problem I think with lots of more modern drummers,
they never learned to properly count time.

As the old saying goes, one must learn to walk before they can run, and
I went through that relatively "horrible" experience of learning to
count time 45 years ago. I reckon there's no quick, modern replacement,
for the old ways of learning things.

One would like to think, that we could all be like "Neo", plug our brain
in, and within seconds, be playing like Buddy.

Speaking of "Take 5", ever notice how well Morello integrated the Hi-Hat
in this time signature? It's tricky I've found, and takes some practice.

I think lots of modern drummers never learned to feel time properly.
Too much time counting and not enough time singing the melody.
