I'm looking for something a little lighter and sensitive to light sticks and
wood brushes that New Beats. Any Suggestions?

Thanks

I've had great luck for many years with my Sabian AAX Stage Hats, and will likely never part
with them.

Try looking on eBay for some old 1960's A. Zildjian hats. I got a pair for
like $80 and they are exactly what you're talking about. Thinner and more
sensitive than New Beats (I also have 2prs of New Beats), and a more
"organic" sound than newer cymbals. I dig 'em for non-rock applications.

You might also keep an eye out for Mel Lewis Signature HH's by
Istanbul. They have a darker, softer tone than New Beats and don't
have as much of a "metallic" sound.

I have a set of a Zildjian Light 15's I use for small gigs and low
volume stuff. They are the cat's pajamininies.

Not to get wierd on the flow of the thread....but I've gone with 13" dark
K's and am very happy. I can always hear them now as their own instrument,
while new beats and others were sort of loud and background and washey,
especially in regard to chicks and splashes......At first I thought a little
light, but now think crisp, and always present! Articulation is supreme!
when doing cool hat rides. Only other direction I might think is
mastersounds, and probably still in 13's. I researched 12's too and they
almost made the grade, but certainly not compared to 15's in any way

Yeah the chic is not as present as I'd like. I prefer a really thin top
and a heavy bottom in a 15 or 16 to get the job done unmike, but I
really don't care if the chic is heard or not. The vocal mic picks it
up enough for me, as I never mic the hats if I can get away with it.

I guess everybody here is Zildjian fans. The answer is very obvious.
You want a set of Paiste signature dark crisp hats! I suggest that
you want a set one inch larger in diameter than your new beats.
Nothing will beat the Dark Crisps for lighter and sensitive. All
Zildjian cymbals tend to sound rather "clunky". These will be NOTHING
like that. You will be in love!

HOWEVER, please note that "clunky" is not all bad! The delicate sound
of the Dark Crisps will not cut through the mix easily. Zildjian
"clunk" cuts the mix like a knife through hot butter. I've got all
kind of Zildjian hats, but like Petey, my favorite Zildjian hats (on
the big kit) are the K-Z pair. A nice thin K over a Z about 1/4 inch
thick! loverly.

The small kit always has the Dark crisps. Oh MAN do those things cost
now! I'm SO glad I got them way back when. I sure hope they never need
replacing!

I have a set of 13" Dark Crispys, love them, would like to try some
15's for fun. I use these when I am playing harder/louder, BUT they are
very smooth and sensitive, unloess you beat the $hit outta them like I
do at times.
