Post by Pete PembertonPost by Brandon PaluzziPost by Pete PembertonAnyone have an idea what the difference might be?
TIA,

Cord tends to have more impact sound ("slap"), yarn tends to be more
fundamental bar sound.
Generally, yarn wears out quicker, too.

Thanks Brandon!
Looking for more durable mallets for my teaching studio for the
students (and me) to use. Already wearing out the yellow firth ones and
only have had them about 6 months maybe?
Any help is appreciated.

Hi Pete - What instrument and what type of music? (concert
repertoire / solo pieces)
The Firth mallets you're using now -- are they the M3 from this page?

The Innovative Percussion stuff has all been very durable for me -- I
still have mallets from 6-7 years ago, that were used for 2-3 outdoor
marching band seasons (in rainy Western PA), and they're still in nice
shape. Those were from the Field series, but those tend to be a bit
heavy for general orchestral work. All of the signature/soloist
mallets are very high quality, but the natural/wool yarns will break
down quicker than the synthetics yarns/cords. For a nice balance of
price/durability, you might want to check out the Fundamental series
