Anybody know why this drummer killed himself in '87? He had a real great
paying gig with Luther Vandross when he died. I heard his wife was right in
the room when he did it.

what a damn shame, a very talented drummer making a ton of money fell into
the drug trap just like countless other professional musicians.

it wasn't just the drug thing, he partied, but was not really an
abuser.

i personally know 2 of his closest friends, but i really don't want to
get into it. it's deep, and it's never really been resolved.

enjoy his music, he really did revolutionize some aspects of drumming.
you should hear his own stuff where he plays almost all the
instruments. funky !!!!!!

I've never even heard of this guy (no disrespect) but I would be interested
to know what anyone has heard about Lee Morgan's death in 1973.

I have read that he got shot outside the club but also he was shot *on
stage*!! Surely there would be more specific details were he shot on stage!

Is there a book out on his life? Or is it another unsolveable mystery of a
life you can't possibly find much detail on to begin with?

Morgan's death, at only 33, has its place in jazz lore. A girlfriend
of his at the time, Helen More, shot him ON STAGE of the New York
nightclub, Slug's, on Feb. 19, 1972. After the two had an argument -
she was jealous of someone else I believe, More left the club,
returned with a gun and shot him 3 times, at least once in the heart.
Morgan died on the spot.
