Double Bass Pedal -- for a student

Anyone have any recommendations for a decent entry-level-ish double
bass pedal? Double bass would be new to him, but this kid is really
developing quickly (has been playing for a few years already). I
offered to "procure" this item for his parents, but I'm pretty
ignorant about the current bass drum market myself. I think new is
ideal since it will be a gift. If any of you here have a dbl pedal
you're looking to part with, I'd be happy to consider that (but beyond
you guys, I'm just not trusting Ebay as much as I used to).

Price point is under $200.

Initial peeks at offerings online include a DW 4000 series, Gibralter
Avenger, Taye PSK, Pearl 902, a few others including PDP... I have no
idea bout the quality or reputation for any of these. I guess I'd
assume they're mostly fine. But if any of you have thoughts, I'd be
happy to hear.

The things to look for are the castings of the crucial parts like
linkages and the bearing assemblies.
Those are the parts that do the real work and are what they skimp on to
save money.

If they are made of cast aluminum and painted, they will wear out and/or
strip threads.

If they are chrome plated or shiny like (stainless steel), they will
last much longer.

I just looked at pics of the DW4000, Gibraltar, Taye and the Pearl.

The first two have those cheap aluminum (or something worse) parts. I
can't see everything on the Taye, but it looks better.
The Pearl is the only one that seems to have all hard metal parts. I've
seen that Pedal and it's built well. They have great customer service,
too. I'd go with the Pearl.

Don't forget to check out the local pawn shops. I grabbed an older
DW5000 double pedal for less than $100.

Everything on the first page of results with that footboard seems to
suggest a P-122TW.

I think the guy I played with in my lateset band had these on at least
one of his kits. They seemed ai't. Hard to argue with for $100 I
