Any advice would be appreciated. Is there a kick pedal that has a
lighter action for a smaller person?

Thanks in advance.

I bought one those cheap "Sound Percussion" kits from Guitar Center, to
use as a rehearsal kit, when it was $150.
It actually sounds decent and is much better quality than the "toy" drum
sets you see at a lot of stores.

The pedal is pretty light (I use it for a cowbell mount).
But you can always get a lighter spring for any pedal.

I got lucky and found a HipGig Jr shell pack for $200 at a holiday sale at
GC a few years ago. I've only recently found a stool short enough, and made
enough room to set up a second kit, but my four year old just loves playing
the drums. Or at least the cymbals. Not many four year olds get to bang on a
complete set of Sabian AAs.

Thanks. I found these for $280+$6 shipping, and there's a $25 mail in
rebate:

My only concern is that the bass drum is really small (16" diameter),
so the whole kit might only be large enough for 2 or 3 years.

I guess we could probably get at least $100 for it on Craig's List
when he outgrows it, whereas a cheaper one would just end up getting
tossed. Thanks again for replying.

Good job, those will be great for learning on.

You can play a 16 you're whole life. It's not the size, but the
application.

When he gets into a band or starts gigging, he'll probably need
something bigger just for tone and volume.

True dat. Play it yourself, it's just a fun kit to play. I'm amazed at how
nice the 13" floor tom sounds myself.
