Same gig as the ears going bad. Mid 2nd set my hands start cramping. At
least my fingers were tighten on the sticks as opposed to having no grip. It
was hot as hell and I thought that maybe I was dehydrated, so I started
slugging water. Still though, I haven't had that issue come up before. Even
in much worse situations.

Dehydration is a quick route to cramping. A sports drink rather than
water will have electrolytes that are needed to evade the cramping.
You need the salts.

You may also be hitting too hard. Might consider "more me" in your
in-ears as sealing ears without any drums/cymbals or at least
something ambient on the stage in that IEM mix can give drummers a
false sense of "gee I'm not loud enough" and before you know it,
unconsciously you're hitting way to hard, and the cramps come shortly
after.

Welcome to old ager - or at least older age :-)

For hot gigs my life savers are Gatorade and a good fan. And pasta - the
stuff is better than speed to keep your energy up.

It sounds like blasphemey, but don't drink beer. Any alcohol actually
dehydrates you and will increase cramping.

Good advice. Soda pop doesn't help either.

I like Gatorade, but it has too much sugar for my delicate condition. I'll
look around for a less sweet energy fluid. Thanks.

Gatorade's G2 was invented with this thought in mind. If you haven't
tried it or other "low calorie" sports drinks, it may get you where
you wanna go.

Powerade ZERO is a great choice.
It has all the "stuff" that helps replenish you, but no calories.

I like it because it doesn't have the heavy taste of Gatorade.
I outgrew Kool-aid a long time ago and can't stand that thick sugary
taste any more.

Calories are not what concerns me; sugar is my killer. I'll check the label
on all that stuff when I get to the store. I don't think I've had Kool-Aid
in 40 yrs. Nasty!
Thanks.

Gatorade is commonly watered down 50/50 for better absorbtion, and gets
rid of the heavy taste too.

That's what I used to do, before Powerade.
