I finally got my new Cocobolo stave kit finished and wanted to show
you guys the photos. I spent about an hour playing it and man it
sounds great. I just love how well the stave shells react at super low
volumes. You still get a full tone if you barely touch the drum, yet
they don't seem to ever choke if you whack the piss out of them! :-)
It does sound very similar to my Bubinga kit I had in the same sizes,
but I just love the look of Cocobolo and they sound amazing. I'll get
photos of the Macassar Ebony snare tomorrow. I'm waiting for my throws
and butts, but seeing that I don't use my wires 95% of the time, it's
not a big deal. These shells really colored up beautifully after
getting the lacquer on them.
