The Practical Joke I Almost Played on Ringo Starr

How many times in your life do you get a chance to pull a practical joke
on an absolute legend in your field and household name?
Well, I blew it... I wussed out.

The bus I was on last weekend and its driver were out with Bruce
Springsteen the week before we we were out on it. They were also
scheduled to head off and pick up Ringo Starr after dropping us off
us in Austin, TX.

Try as I might to find a Pete Best Biography to leave on the bathroom
sink, I just couldn't do it in time. I thought about making a poster to
hang in the back suite that read, "Pete Best is Best!" but alas, I lost
my nerve. As a younger man, I wouldn't have thought twice. :-)

Either way, the driver probably would've discarded any of my efforts.
But go on, let me have it.... I certainly deserve it.

An even better practical joke would have been to go score an ounce or
two of heroin, hide it somewhere on the bus, and then call the police
to report the drugs on the bus in some hard nosed legal jurisdiction
on Ringo's tour route. That would have been good for a million laughs.

Even better, wait in that jurisdiction to snap some photographs of the
cops hauling Ringo off of the bus in handcuffs, and then sell the pics
to the National Enquirer. It would have been epic!
