I met Jim at PASIC a few years ago. He was ripping up the place
demonstrating his advanced snare techniques to a variety of young
rockers. I didn't realize he was this old! He sure wasn't acting like
it a few years ago! RIP!

I had a private lesson w/Jim about 15 years and it was simply amazing
how he played. He offered me a drink of the whiskey he was drinking
and told me I had good hands but terrible feet!
I'll never forget that lesson...made me realize how much I had yet to
learn about drumming...

Many years ago I was given a copy of a Music Minus One record & book for
Advanced Techniques, with Jim playing the exercises. That was the single
biggest influence and improvement for me as a young drummer, it was really
the foundation for everything I've ever done as a drummer in the 30 years
since then.

RIP Jim, and thank you for helping me and countless others during your long
career.

What a career in music he had - and known by drummers all over the
world, inspiring with his enthusiasm for drumming. I saw him at a clinic
a few years years ago and it was marvellous.

His books are milestones too.

Here's to Jim Chapin -
