Discussion:
How do I specify this drum style?

Writing a drum part, I want to specify a folk-jazz style, including
the use of rim clicks. I'm not trying to notate it exactly - just the
general style. What should I write on the drum part? Right now I have
"folk-jazz style, straight 8ths, include rim clicks". Any general
guidelines on specifying a drum style? What would help a drummer
understand what the composer has in mind?
Thanks

I think I would find that information useful. There may be a more "correct"
way to specify what you're trying to convey ("cross-sticking" instead of
"rim-clicks", perhaps?), but when I'm sittin' in the chair I don't really care
what's notated on the chart, as long as it's useful and gets the point across.

What is the situation? Will you be there for the performance or will
this chart be sent out into the world?
