I have been playing out with 5 different acts lately plus lessons and
church and the odd one off here and there. I have been dreading the
spectre of double booking and it has finally happened.

Hindsight is 20/20, as usual. Texting a date or facebooking a date and
I didn't put it on my calendar. I am asking everyone to make sure to
confirm via email going forward, and I am being proactive and emailing
confirmation to them and BCCing myself. Any other tips from you multi
act pros out there to help me avoid this in the future?

That's not a problem I have as an individual - the most I ever played in was
three bands and that was a headache.

My problem is that my one band has three people booking it - a lot - and has
ended up double-booked a couple of times. So I put up an easy to use
calender interface for the guys so they could put bookings in one place,
that's simple and private (and not blocked at work). On one page you enter
in all the details you want about a gig, and on the other you select dates
from the calender and pick the club from the list. No ads, no pop-ups, you
can easily use from any net-enabled phone, etc.

Of course the other guys don't use it at all - they're too busy pimping the
band to remember the name of the website :-)

I keep a Google calendar with all my dates on it and also ask people
that book my bands to check it FIRST (I give them public read-only
access to my calendar). If I'm already booked, they know right away.
Keeping this calendar up-to-date also forces me to regularly review
all my bookings. I also put an HTML page on one of my sites that
combines several bands' Google calendars plus my personal one for a
layered view (easy to do).

Look at http://google.com/calendar -- I think you'll need an account.
That should get you started. I haven't done it but you can also synch
the calendars up with Outlook and other desktop calendar apps (a
simple Google search should point you in the right directions).

BTW, here's a link to my mash-up page: http://anthemtribute.com/robschedule.html.
From the calendar settings, there's a section called "Embed this
calendar" that gives you the HTML to get you started on this.

Good luck...

Thanks!

Wow do you really rehearse weekly with both bands? That would drive me
nuts, considering they play 1-2 times a month...

I am thinking f going the ical/iphone route, but not sure yet.
Expensive buy in for a phone, then there is the monthly $$$$$....

Actually, I don't really even keep my rehearsal schedule up to date on
that calendar. I can have 1-4 per week depending on the week. Most of
the acts try to keep adding new material, improving the show, etc.

Yeah, the great thing about the Google calendar is the price...
