Those who saw the Sheila E. performance, will
probably understand when I say - "I can't think of
a better time and place to have used a nice big
clear set of Vistalites" <bg>

Was it just me, or did that whole sordid event just reek? Playing kick
pedals in spikes? Legs splayed around a snare in a gold lame mini?
Sorry. Her Hi-Hat cymbals were sweet though.

So they had Anton Fig, and now Sheila E., whose coming next?

It must have been just you.
I thought it was the sexiest performance I have ever seen!
And the best out of all of all of the drummers that were on for the entire
week.

I kinda preferred Anton Fig's performance over all the rest, but Sheila E. was
second for me. I saw her and talked to her at a clinic here in Austin last
year, and she was very sweet and likable. She's pretty much self-taught, and
her chops (while not bad) are not quite what Letterman's team could easily have
sought for this event, she's got the music in her and she puts on a good show.
Check YouTube for her performances with Ringo Starr's All Star Band; she did
a great job in that context.

Neil's solo
didn't do much for me,
and I wasn't quite sure what to think about Roy Haynes
mainly because I couldn't imagine
actually playing the drums the way he has them set up. :-) I did enjoy the
whole series though, and it would be cool if it became a regular thing on
Letterman's show, but I ain't staying up that late to catch it when it airs.
I'm quite content to watch it on YouTube after the fact. :-)

Steve:

I set my PVR. Way past my bedtime.
It would be nice if it became a regular thing.
There are so many great drummers. Next time it should be Anton, Steve Gadd,
Virgil D. Tony Royster Jr, Weckl, Erskine, etc.

They could do a week of Rock drummers, then Funk then Jazz etc.

A week of female drummers would be amazing:

Cindy Blackman, Evelyn Glennie, Terri Lyne Carrington, Meg White, Stephanie
Eulinberg, Mercedes Lander, and Shelia E of course.
