I bought a Tascam 2488 a few years back and have just now had the chance to
use it. I'm trying to make a quick demo for the gigs that require something
in advance of booking. What I did was to hang a 57 over my kit, mic the
amps, direct the bass from a sansamp and hang a mic over the whole thing for
an ambient effect. Damned if it didn't turn out really good for not having
done anything like this before. I've tried mixing it by bringing the ambient
up to aid the instruments, but I think I like it the other way around. It
seems cleaner to bring the vox and instruments into the ambient. We'll go
for the track by track stuff later, when we have more time, but for what it
is, I like it. This is neat stuff.
