30+ lbs??
density of rolled steel: 7850 kg/m^3 = 0.284 lbm/in^3
Outer radius (R): 7 in
Inner radius (r): 6.75 in
Height (h): 6.5 in

Volume = pi*(R^2 - r^2)*h ~ 70.2 in^3

Weight = Density * Volume = 19.9 lbs

not too far off, I suppose.
no that far off, I suppose.

Most of us probably would have just said "Well, it's made of 1/4 inch thick
steel. :-)

I used to own a "Razorback" snare. The former co-owner of "Razorback"
Drums in Nashville claimed to have bought a number of left over shells
from Jeff Ocheltree. I bought it off Ebay. Mine looked just like the
one in the pic with exception of the badge and lugs, Mine came with no
badge, but had the triangular 3 hole configuration on opposite sides of
the snare for the "dangerous ocheltree type" badges. Mine also had the
hex machined brass lugs instead of steel.The shell was very close to if
not 1/4" thick and weighed over 20 lbs. The snare beds were maybe 1/8",
or 1/16" deep and Brass-Plated? Die cast hoops. I didn't care much for
it's tone, regardless of tuning or head selection. I found it
one-dimensional and lacking in dynamic nuance. Not my cup of tea. I
sold it. Good Riddance.

I actually had some email correspondence with Jeff Ocheltree regarding
my Carbon Steel "Razorback" snare. In an attempt to verify the
authenticity of the claims made by the seller whom I purchased it from.
If anyone is interested in the dialog, I still have the email--- I
could post it, if there's no legal repercussions to posting email
communications.

As the former owner of Razorback drums, I can say, they were purchased by the nashville mgr richard thornton from jeff ocaltree. So the hcs rasorback is the same drum, high carbon steel, 22lbs, Eddie Tudori of the Jimmy Messina band used one.
